Has anybody heard about China putting melamine in baby formula killing & injuring babies?
A ‘woman’ plead guilty for doing it. How sick is this? At least 6 died and 290,000 injured!!! China should not be allowed to get away with this anymore. You hear about China and recalled items on the news every day! Hopefully Obama will bring our jobs back to the United States and we can have safe products again. I worry everyday about my children and their safety. We need to start taking care of our country and people first anyhow. We need to bring back jobs immediately to help save our country! Anybody agree with me? I am so tired of hearing about recalled items from China and how many babies, toddlers, & children they kill and injury EVERYDAY! Its uncalled for!

Oh, my bad! I AM NOT blaming an entire country. ONLY those who produce massive amounts of dangerous items and sell them to the United States where I live, and kill & injure babies and children here!
I also understand that this time did not affect the US. It does not make it any better though. It could have got sent here with all of the other dangerous toys, clothes, bottles, liners, etc. made in China. Its still sick no matter what country it is. Point is, is that it all comes from the same place……China
If the US is not paying China enough then China should turn down the job instead of finding ways to make more money by adding dangerous deadly things to items.
SHANNON: Like I said, if you would read the whole question & comments, I AM NOT blaming the whole country….only the people who are killing children!

Yeah it is horrid and George W. Bush and his administration are to blame as well!! All for money!! They pay them probabaly 1 dollar an hour!! So sad!!
yes, it’s very sad. the formula I use is manufactured in Ohio and organic, but I was still nervous back when the story first came out.
dont blame a whole country for the few sickos there…..yes it sucks but was anyone here personally affected by this in the way they were?? Why is it that when something happens here ….we all care…and when there are bad things happening in other countries like child starvation we say what a shame and keep eating our dinners….yes our economy is suffering, we spend billions of dollars on bombs creating death showers, when millions die of starvation….america only cares about money…china if anything is now the ahead of america well advanced in technology and economy, and america owes them money…. and yes hopefully obama will get some jobs out there…..especially for those who are still paying there college debt because we were led to believe that we could be whatever we wanted
I blame the mothers for thinking formula was better than breastfeeding.
Because of this, the hospitals there are enforcing better breastfeeding education for expectant mothers.

And did you hear that after this, FDA did an investigation saying there was no level of safe melamine therefore they needed to test US products for it. Guess what? THEY FOUND IT! In the top selling formulas (Enfamil, Simliac, Goodstart) and said they were at safe levels.
Thats good they said that. Now I am aware there are safe levels of melamine along with mercury and other toxins for our children.

Now some congress members are talking about the corruption going on with the FDA, how instead of looking out for the consumers’ interests, theyve been looking out for corprate profit. They hope to put the FDA under a re-evaluation

Personally I live in China, been here for 5 years and I think you are pretty much wrong. It’s not that Chinese goods are more dangerous…it’s that the US government is truly afraid of the power of the Chinese. They went from a country that no one ever thought about to one of the richest countries in the world and we helped them do it. But in the past 5 years China has been building up it’s military and expressed interest in becoming a "world policing" country…we don’t like that. SO it’s in our best interest to play up the ‘threats’ to help loyal customers reject Chinese goods.
We’ve had far worse incidents with US companies that were hardly a blip on the radar. I’m not saying that it’s ‘right’ that these things happened concerning Chinese products but we created this problem!!! We pay the Chinese companies a few cents for every product they produce and leave them to pay their employees and still turn a profit!! THEN when they look for ways to make more money or cut corners we get angry.
The problem, as I recall it, was that a farmer disposed of the toxin on the farm and either the cows ate it and then ti was made into formula or it was dumped into the cows milk and then turned into formula. You can not blame many many people for this incident as it was one or two people. Same with the recalled toys, it is not the workers fault that lead based paint was placed in front of them and how where they supposed to know? The people who bought the lead based paint for them to you is the person or people to blame. It is only a handful of people to blame and aside from the farmer or farmers who dumped the melamine, those people were American or directly related to their American owners.
The people who work at these factories do not make enough, that is correct. But it is more money than they had before. The outsourcing of these factories creates a buying power for consumers in China that was never there before. They choose to take the job to have extra food or as a means for their family. They still live within a communist society so this buying power is brand new and awesome to them and by passing it is silly to them. however for their very low pay, they are also exposed to extreme working conditions similar to those pre-union days in the U.S. Child labor exists over there under an American owned company. Blame the companies that outsourced their factories out there in the first place. Blame the executive that bought the lead based paint, not the workers. You think they have choices over there, but they do not! Lead based paint is put in front of them, they paint the toys with them. They are not intentionally hurting our kids.
ETA: My comprehension skill understands what you are saying. I’m just trying to tell you that these Chinese workers are not deliberately doing this, its their AMERICAN owners doing it. !!!Except the milk!!!
Of course, that story was horrible. But it isn’t just China….melamine was found in US formula as well. It didn’t come here from China, the companies manufacturing the formula made it themselves. It would seem that no matter where you live, baby formula can be tainted.
Yes, I have heard about this. Were you aware also that melamine was showing up in USA formula? I also heard that the US FDA determined (I kid you not) that small amounts will not hurt people, but they have not determined how much would!
I agree, China is cheap and makes cheap products. I asked a question a couple of weeks ago about when China became the "Most preferred trading partner." From what I learned, it started with Carter, Reagan continued it, as did Bush, Clinton and Bush. I am disgusted with how these people continue to sell out the USA, only to have more and more crap coming from there. They need to start making the trading deficit even and correct it. This is one big reason I love Legos…they usually aren’t made in China and if they are, it is only a part of it and they have high standards. I go out of my way not to buy from China.
But don’t kid yourself. Obama has the same handlers as Bush, Clinton, Reagan and Carter had. If he didn’t, then why are the politics elite giddy about Obama taking office? It may sound outlandish, but it is the truth…all you need to do is look at the facts and then look how people (who are usually "Conservative") get excited about Obama being in office. I have voted Democrat until this election…when I started to look at the facts. I am not bitter about who won, but more worried about what will happen because he is in office. Also, you should ask yourself why the two candidates who "won" to be on the ballot BOTH had their nationality questioned…McCain and Obama both had this happen.
In their own words:

Actually, China cracked down on it because people were dying.
Meanwhile, our wholesome and loving FDA basically just declares it to be not dangerous, so no one would have to deal with it. Otherwise, merchants would have had to pull a LOT of "food" off their shelves. Thanks FDA! You are now officially more corrupt than the Chinese government!
In fact, there was a massive coverup going on towards the end of last year, as much of the candy sold around Halloween was made with powdered milk from China.
That’s how much your government loves you.
If you’re really concerned about this sort of thing, better have a good long look at the FDA. This is just the tip of the iceberg. there are FAR worse things being done to the US food supply than just the melamine coverup.
I am aware of this incident. My belief is that it was not done intentionally, but is symptomatic of the lack of standards we find in totalitarian systems. In a system where the leadership gains power by ruthlessness, we can’t expect to find concern for others.
We see this among politicians around the world, to lesser degrees. We see a lack of concern about the welfare of a nation’s own troops, as well as civilians in a target nation when an unprovoked military action is undertaken. Whereas normal people are reluctant to cause accidental injury to others, many politicians have no problem with the killing of others.
I am not referring to necessary casualties arising from a just war, a war of self defense. I am not a passifist, in fact, I recently retired from the Army. What I am saying is, there are times when waging war is justified, and unfortunately sometimes the casualties involve innocent civilians. We normally try to minimize this.
But in totalitarian systems like China, the leadership considers itself far removed from ordinary mortals like you and me. As long as they can maintain their power, they don’t loose any sleep over regular people dying.
Again, the fact that our own politicians don’t seem concerned enough to do anything shows that they share this indifference, to a lesser degree. If the government of China were hostile to the globalists, it would be a different story. They would be seeking ways to undermine that government.
Yes, sad isn’t it? Check out my article about this topic:
